Roasted Brussels sprouts are a simple yet delicious way to enjoy this nutritious vegetable. With just a few ingredients and minimal prep, you can transform Brussels sprouts into a crispy, golden-brown side dish that’s packed with flavour. Whether you’re serving them alongside a holiday meal or as a weeknight dinner companion, this recipe is sure to win over even the pickiest eaters.
Ingredients:
1 lb (about 450g) Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
Wash the Brussels sprouts under cold water, then trim off the stems and remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves. Cut each sprout in half lengthwise.
In a large mixing bowl, toss the halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper until they are evenly coated. Mix the garlic, balsamic vinegar, and bacon in at this stage.
Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, with the cut sides facing down. This helps them get nicely browned and crispy.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 20-25 minutes, or until the Brussels sprouts are golden brown and crispy on the edges. Halfway through, stir them or shake the pan to ensure even cooking.
If you’re adding Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it over the Brussels sprouts during the last 5 minutes of roasting.
Once roasted to your desired crispiness, remove the Brussels sprouts from the oven. Transfer to a serving dish, and enjoy them hot. They’re perfect as a side dish to any fall meal!
Tips:
For extra flavour, try drizzling the roasted Brussels sprouts with a little extra balsamic vinegar before serving. You can also add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.
With their perfect balance of crispiness and tenderness, these roasted Brussels sprouts are a crowd-pleaser every time. Whether you stick to the classic version or add your own twist with ingredients like garlic, balsamic vinegar, or Parmesan, this versatile dish is bound to become a staple in your fall recipe rotation. Serve them hot and enjoy the wonderful, earthy flavours that only roasting can bring out.
