Rabba invests in solar panel initiative, expects to reduce its dependency on provincial electricity grid
Investment will drastically reduce the carbon footprint of distribution centres used by Rabba Fine Foods
Mississauga, November 16, 2022 — Rabba has entered into an agreement with Green
Integrations and Star Energy Solutions to develop solar generation that will help it greatly
reduce the carbon footprint of its grocery network. When completed, the solar energy systems
will generate more than 1.5 million kWh of electricity annually, thereby offsetting the vast
majority of the electricity requirements for Rabba’s Mississauga distribution facilities. The
project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
A total of 2,585 solar panels will be installed and will help to lessen the company’s reliance on
the provincial electricity grid. They will generate enough electricity to reduce carbon dioxide
output by 822 tons, which is the equivalent of planting 362,000 trees planted or eliminating 88
kilometers of motor traffic.
“The environment is important to our customers, and our business,” said Jack Rabba.
“Harnessing the power of solar energy is one of the ways we can contribute to a more
sustainable and, ultimately, a healthy business. We are eager to see this investment come to
fruition.”
“Green Integrations is honoured to have been chosen by the Rabba team to develop its first
solar net-metering systems,” said John Staneko, President and CEO at Green Integrations. “This
initiative serves as a great example of a growing group of companies that are future-proofing
their businesses with renewable energy. This initiative will lead to tangible economic and
environmental outcomes including job creation, supporting the green economy, and a reduced
carbon footprint. We look forward to being a part of this initiative.”
Rabba’s facilities distribute grocery, refrigerated, dairy and frozen goods as well as specialty
items.
