Rabba Fine Foods president, Rick Rabba, joins CFIG board of directors

Mississauga, Ont., Nov. 18, 2019 – Rabba Fine Food announces today the appointment of Rick Rabba, president of the company, to the board of Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG). The appointment was confirmed October 22 at the annual general meeting of CFIG directors held at Grocery Innovations Canada, the country’s largest grocery trade show.

“I’m honoured by the appointment and eager to participate in the work of CFIG as a director,” says Rabba. “We’ve been wholly committed to independent grocery over the years and have seen, firsthand, the work of CFIG in educating the public on the benefits of local, independent grocers as well as giving us a louder voice in government. I am looking forward to participating in the work of CFIG in this new role.”

As a member of the CFIG’s board of directors, Rabba will be working alongside industry leaders on common issues such as a code of conduct for the industry, which CFIG believes will help bring more fairness and transparency to industry practices in Canada.  As well, CFIG will continue its ongoing push to further reduce credit card interchange fees and support changes in the sale of beer and wine in Ontario that do not put independents at a competitive disadvantage. With the support of Tom Shurrie, president and CEO of CFIG, and staff, the board offers support and resources to the more than 6,900 independent grocers spread across Canada. With estimated sales of $13 billion, independent grocery retailers provide 93,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs.

“One of our mandates is to provide independent grocers with the guidance and resources they need to run their businesses sustainably,” says Shurrie. “With his extensive experience, Rick knows the landscape very well and, as he’s done for Rabba, he’s sure to help other members of the industry remain competitive well into the future. I look forward to sharing the table with him.”
