MISSISSAUGA, Ont., APRIL 17, 2018 – Rabba Fine Foods has completed the final installations in a three-year project that has led to the elimination of old electrical light fixtures in favour of energy efficient LED ones. With the switch, the network of 34 local neighbourhood markets and distribution centres now consumes 1.2 million kWh of energy, down from the earlier figure 2.6 million – a reduction of 54 per cent. Less electricity used translates into less fossil fuel burned, a smaller carbon footprint, and therefore less pollution.
“Like our local customers, we’re investing in the future and our communities,” says Rick Rabba, president at Rabba Fine Foods. “Our locations tend to evolve in tandem with our neighbourhoods, whether it’s in our food selection, store design or changes in sustainable business practices. You can be sure there’ll be additional innovation and new and exciting projects ahead in all of these areas.”
The first Rabba market to feature new LED fixtures was the location at the corner of Kings Cross and Knightsbridge roads in Brampton (17 Kings Cross Road). The last one to be retrofitted was at Isabella St. and Gloucester Ln in Toronto (9 Isabella St.). The average drop in lighting energy consumption across all locations is 57 per cent.
Rabba was recently nominated to receive the Spirit Award as part of Alectra Utilities’ first annual customer awards event that recognizes companies for their participation in energy conservation programs.
